WINNIPEG HAWKS WIN BRONZE AT 2018 WESTERN BANTAMS

WINNIPEG – Hockey Manitoba would like to congratulate the Bantam 1 – Winnipeg Hawks on winning bronze at the 2018 Western Canada Bantam AAA Championship that was held in Kamloops, B.C. from March 29 – April 1.

The Winnipeg Hawks earned their way into the Western Bantams after they won the Bantam 1 – AAA City Championship over the Winnipeg Sharks.  After defeating the Sharks they went on to beat the Southwest Cougars (Bantam AAA Rural Champion) in a best-of-3 series with the winner earning a berth into the 2018 Western Canada Bantam AAA Championship.

The first game of Western Bantams saw the Hawks lose 6-4 to the host team, Thompson Blazers.  During their second day in B.C. the Hawks would win both of their games, 9-1 vs West Central Wheat Kings & 4-3 vs Seafair Islanders.  Their 4th and final round robin game on day 3 saw the Hawks lose to the Airdrie Xtreme 7-1 which would have them finish 3rd in the standings and would set up a rematch against the host Thompson Blazers.  The Blazers would tie the game up with 4 seconds left in the 3rd before the Hawks would score only 37 seconds into OT to win the bronze medal.

Connor Roulette (Winnipeg Hawks) was named Top Scorer of the tournament while Dawson Pasternak (Winnipeg Hawks) was named Most Sportsmanlike Player.
