Winterhawks’ Glass named WHL Player of the Week

Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today that Portland Winterhawks captain Cody Glass has been named the WHL On the Run Player of the Week for the week ending December 2, 2018.

Glass, who was made the first-ever draft selection of the Vegas Golden Knights at sixth overall in the 2017 NHL Draft, recorded eight points (2G-6A) and a plus-five rating in two games as the Winterhawks poured on the offence with 18 goals over their pair of weekend games.

Saturday in an 8-2 win against the Spokane Chiefs, Glass recorded three primary assists, factoring into his team’s third, fourth, and seventh goals, all at even strength.

Sunday, Glass recorded the fourth five-point game of his WHL career, scoring twice and adding three more assists in a 10-2 win against the Kootenay ICE. Glass Scored the sixth and seventh goals of the contest for the Winterhawks. He also picked up primary assists on his team’s first and fifth goals while adding a secondary assist on their second goal. He was named the second star of the game and the first star of the night in the WHL for his efforts.

The two games helped Glass extend his point streak to 14 games, the second-longest streak in the WHL this season. With 51 points (11G-40A) though 24 games this season, Glass ranks fourth in WHL scoring and first in assists. Of Glass’ 11 goals, he has four power-play goals and one short-handed goal.

Monday, Glass was named to Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Selection Camp, scheduled for December 12 to 14 in Victoria, B.C. Glass will be competing for a spot on Canada’s roster, which will be looking to earn back-to-back gold medals when the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship begins Wednesday, December 26, 2018.

Glass was originally selected by the Winterhawks in the first round, 19th overall, at the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft. In 225 WHL regular season games with the Winterhawks, the 6-foot-2, 185-pound forward from Winnipeg, Man. has produced 274 points (90G-184A), including 31 power-play goals, three short-handed goals, and a 11 game-winning goals. Glass has also appeared in 27 WHL playoff games, recording 25 points (9G-16A), including four power-play goals.

Winners of two straight, the Winterhawks are back in action Friday, December 7 (7:00 p.m. PT) when they play host to the Prince George Cougars at the Moda Centre.
