Hockey Manitoba’s Mission, Vision and Values set out our role today, the future we want to help create, and the values that guide how we lead, support members, communicate, partner and make decisions.
Our Mission
To lead, connect and support Manitoba’s hockey community in providing safe, welcoming opportunities for everyone to participate, develop and enjoy the game.
Our Vision
A hockey community where everyone belongs at every stage of life.
Our Values
Four values describe how Hockey Manitoba works. Each has a belief statement and three behaviours that show what the value looks like in practice.
We act honestly, transparently, consistently and accountably. We earn trust by doing what we say we will do.
- We communicate expectations, decisions and the reasons behind them clearly and honestly.
- We apply policies, standards and processes fairly and consistently.
- We own our actions and decisions, correct mistakes and follow through on commitments.
We listen, communicate and work together across roles, regions, organizations and communities toward shared goals.
- We listen to understand and seek input from people affected before making significant decisions.
- We communicate clearly, early and consistently, share information, and work across departments, associations, leagues, regions and partners rather than in silos.
- We recognize, value and support the contributions of members, volunteers, staff and partners.
We create safe, welcoming and accessible hockey experiences that respect the diversity of Manitoba’s people, abilities, identities, cultures, communities and geography.
- We actively seek to understand the needs and experiences of different participants and communities.
- We identify and reduce barriers to participation, leadership, volunteering and development.
- We create physically and emotionally safe environments that support wellbeing and where people feel respected, supported and valued, and able to say, “This is my sport.”
We welcome feedback, and continually strive to improve how hockey is governed, supported and delivered.
- We use feedback, evidence and experience to improve governance, programs, services, standards and pathways.
- We are willing to test new approaches and evolve when the game or the needs of our communities change.
- We pursue excellence while preserving Manitoba hockey’s passion, humility, community character and identity.
How this framework will be used
The Mission, Vision and Values will guide Hockey Manitoba’s governance, strategy, staff leadership, member communication, culture, partnerships and decision-making.
MHAs, leagues, regions, volunteers, coaches, officials and partners will see the framework show up in Hockey Manitoba’s planning, communications, policies, committee work, member support and service delivery.
How it was developed
The framework was shaped in a full-day stakeholder workshop with Board members, staff leadership and more than 30 invited participants from Manitoba’s hockey community. Staff leadership then reviewed the work, all Hockey Manitoba staff validated it, and the Board gave final approval.
Hockey Manitoba thanks everyone who gave their time and insight to this work.
