The Girls U16 Program of Excellence is designed to provide high performance female players with the opportunity to develop advanced skills as well as an introduction to the concepts needed to play at an elite level. Players from the Program of Excellence go on to play at the U Sport, NCAA and International level.
The Girls U16 Program of Excellence has been redesigned as a preparatory program for the Women’s U18 Program of Excellence. The goal of the program will be to teach our up-and-coming female athletes the skills, concepts and tactics specific to the Women’s U18 Program of Excellence, ensuring that these athletes are given the proper development time in order to move to the U18 level and beyond.
Hockey Manitoba is excited to announce a new selection process for the 2026 Girls U16 Program of Excellence (POE). This process is designed to mirror the U18 POE model, giving athletes an early experience in a high-performance environment and preparing them for the next stages of their development.
The 2026 Girls U16 POE Spring Selection Camp will take place April 24–26, 2026, and athletes invited to this camp will have the opportunity to participate in a focused development environment that reflects the expectations they will encounter at the U18 level.
Athletes eligible for this program are those:
- Born between January 1, 2011, and December 31, 2012
- Currently playing with a AAA program or Accredited School
- Demonstrate the Program of Excellence Principles of Play: Relentless – Speed – All In
Coach input is used as guidance to ensure athletes selected are best positioned to benefit from — and contribute to — the high-performance environment at the Spring Selection Camp.
What This Means:
- There is no open registration link for this Girls U16 evaluation.
- Athletes will receive information directly if they meet the eligibility and selection criteria.
Our goal is to support athlete development, provide meaningful learning experiences, and help athletes thrive as they progress toward U18 POE and beyond.
Important Note
Athletes who are not selected for this evaluation are still talented, hardworking, and valued players. Not being invited at this stage does not reflect their ability or future potential within Hockey Manitoba’s Female Program of Excellence.
