HOCKEY MANITOBA’S U16 POE

Hockey Manitoba offers a high performance program for second year bantam hockey players. The U16 – Program of Excellence is a competitive program that allows select hockey players to try out for the opportunity to represent Manitoba as a member of Team Manitoba.

Hockey Manitoba requests each region to send a prescribed number of players to a spring camp in Winnipeg. 136 players from around the province will compete at a camp from March 30 to April 1. The Team Manitoba coaching staff along with a number of evaluators will select 40 of those players to attend a summer camp. Team Manitoba will be selected from those final 40 players.

The Yellowhead region has been given a quota of 7 players to send to Winnipeg in March. We are asked to send 1 goalie, 3 defencemen, and 3 forwards. All 1997 born male players residing in the region are eligible to be selected.

A change in Hockey Manitoba’s programming has resulted in none of the regions running local selection camps to determine their representatives. Regions, including the Yellowhead Region, are going to utilize scouts from the MJHL and from the WHL to aid in the selection process. The Team Manitoba coaching staff may also be making requests for certain players to attend the spring camp.

Players selected to represent the region at the spring camp will be charged a $90 fee by Hockey Manitoba to attend.
