TEAM MANITOBA HEADS TO SALMON ARM FOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Team Manitoba Female Under -18 team departed today for the 2005 National Women’s Under 18 Championships. The event slated to run November 9-13, 2005 will take place in Salmon Arm, BC.
Team Manitoba will open the tournament on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 9th as they battle the defending National Championship squad from Ontario. The team rounds out its preliminary round schedule against Alberta on Thursday and Saskatchewan on Friday. The Gold Medal game is slated for Sunday, November 13.
Last year, Team Manitoba captured 5th at the event and are looking to improve on that finish this year. The team returns 8 players from that squad, including goaltender Melissa Kunzelman, defensemen Cassandra Flanagan, Jocelyne Larocque, Ashley Lynch and Sarah Murray, and forwards Tammy Brade, Andrea Cook and Laura Fridfinnson. Goaltender Jenna Illchuk, defensemen Saleah Morrison and Samantha Wauer, and forwards Josie Bertholet, Meghan Corbett, Kayla Duna, Amanda Klassen, Kelsey Kulbacki, Cindy Lukianchuk, Addie Miles, Jenna Ouellette, and Jasmine Pollock round out the squad.
The team has been very successful thus far this season, capturing championships in both tournaments they have entered, including the University of Manitoba Bison Pre-Season Invitational and the University of North Dakota Sioux-per Series. The team has posted an 8-0-1 record in the process, including victories over Team Saskatchewan, and illustrious United States Prep School, Shattuck St. Mary’s.
