HOCKEY MANITOBA HONORS CANADIAN NATIONAL JUNIOR TEAM – LUNCHEON TICKETS ON SALE NOW!!
Hockey Manitoba is pleased to honor the 2005 Canada World Junior Team on December 21st with a luncheon as the team makes their final preparations in advance of the World Championship scheduled for Grand Forks over the Christmas Holidays.
The luncheon is scheduled for the Canad Inn Polo Park from 11:30 – 1:30 PM on December 21st with individual tickets priced at $20.00. Reserved tables of 10 for $200.00 can be purchased from the Hockey Manitoba office located at 200 Main Street, phone 925-5756. All proceeds to benefit Winnipeg Harvest.
The National Junior Team is comprised of players primarily from the 3 Canadian Junior Leagues and is a highlight of the Christmas holidays for all hockey enthusiasts. The 1999 World Junior Championships were held in Winnipeg and set an attendance record that was only recently broken by another Canadian site in 2003 when it was held in Halifax.
Canada captured the Silver Medal last year in a close defeat to the USA and is the only team to have medalled in 11 of the last 12 World Championship’s including 5 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze.
It is anticipated that Canada will be represented by 2 players from Manitoba including returning center Nigel Dawes, who led all scorers at the 2004 World Junior Championships and Cam Barker, from Winnipeg, who was drafted 3rd overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2004 NHL entry draft.
Brent Sutter from Red Deer Alberta is the Head Coach and hockey experts are in agreement that this could be one of Canada’s strongest teams in recent memory. Sidney Crosby, who has been compared to Wayne Gretzky, will be returning for his second term as a regular forward. Sidney currently leads all scorers in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
