The Esso Fun Days program is a one-day camp to introduce female players to the game of hockey. There is no fee to the first time participant. The camp introduces basic skills in a fun and positive environment through a number of on and off ice components. The camp is open to females of all ages who are first time players. The ultimate goal of the program is to increase the number of females participating in sport and to introduce basic hockey skills such as skating, puck handling, passing and shooting.
Hockey Canada supplies each host site with the program materials required including the operations manual which outlines the hosting responsibilities, player jerseys and certificates, and event posters as well as a small hosting grant (amount dependant upon number of camps run). Hockey Manitoba will ensure that the materials are sent to each host site and work with the host to arrange lead instructors to instruct at the camps.
Esso Fun Day Camps provide a number of great learning opportunities for female players and also aid in the promotion of your community and local minor hockey association.
If your community is interested in hosting a camp please contact Stephen Sisson with your request or by phone at (204) 925-5762, including a community name and contact, location, and the approximate date (after September 15th) that you wish to run this camp. Deadline for requests is September 3, 2005.
