Pinawa, MB — Nestlé Canada, in partnership with the Western Hockey League, presented a cheque to the Pinawa Minor Hockey Association as winners of the $50,000 WHL Delissio Hockey Challenge on Saturday, June 4th, in Pinawa, MB.

Celebrations included a ball hockey game and Delissio pizza being served among other activities. Pinawa Solo Store, the local grocer that was instrumental in earning Pinawa Minor Hockey this honour, cooked pizza at their store to serve to the approximate 200 members of the community who came out for the festivities.

“The WHL/Delissio event was an awesome day,” commented Ron Drabyk, the president of Pinawa Minor Hockey. “The long line of people waiting to enjoy a slice of Delissio pizza, it was easy to see their delight when they sat down to eat. Thanks for making our day so special.”

The $50,000 will benefit the Pinawa Minor Hockey in many areas, including upgrades to help rebuild their outdoor rink.

“Nestlé Canada, in partnership with the Western Hockey League, is proud to congratulate the Pinawa Minor Hockey Association as winners of the $50,000 Delissio WHL Hockey Challenge”, said Mr. Robert Carducci, Assistant Marketing Manager from Delissio. “The efforts put forth by the community of Pinawa and Mr. Ron Drabyk demonstrated the community spirit and passion we were hoping to capture with this contest.”

The Delissio WHL Hockey Challenge invited fans from Western Canada to submit UPC cut-outs from Delissio pizza boxes from November 1 to February 28, 2011. The winner was announced on March 22nd.

Nestlé Canada and the WHL would also like to extend congratulations to Lumby Minor Hockey, who finished second place in the Delissio WHL Hockey Challenge. In the spirit of recognizing local community champions and the extraordinary effort Sherry Kineshanko and the community of Lumby put forth in the Delissio WHL Hockey Challenge, the second place prize awarded to the Lumby Minor Hockey Association has been upgraded to $50,000.
