Rick Pettinger – February 2009 Volunteer of the Month

by Hockey Manitoba  |  March 24, 2009 10:48 am

Rick has coached hockey in the winter and summer months for the past 25 years which immediately indicates his commitment for the game of hockey. He has also served on the Souris Minor Hockey Association Board in all capacities for the last 20 years and is currently President.

He has enjoyed working with many volunteers while hosting local, provincial and national hockey events which have come to Souris. Rick also helps organize the Bantam Tournament of Champions and indicates that Souris is a great hockey community and it has truly been a rewarding experience over the years.

With hockey numbers declining in most of Manitoba, Rick believes it is imperative that hockey associations ensure, especially in the early years, that the game remain both affordable and fun for both children and parents. Community members acknowledge that Rick has been a role model for both coaches and parents and is a valued member of the volunteer base in Souris.

Rick would like to extend his appreciation to Hockey Manitoba and those who nominated him for this acknowledgement. Minor Hockey Associations across Manitoba are lucky to have many volunteers who continue to work hard to make hockey a life long sport – all of whom should be thanked for their efforts.

Rick would also like to give special thanks to his four sons who have tolerated their dad coaching them and a great wife who loves to watch her sons improve in the game.

Hockey Manitoba congratulates Rick Pettinger as the February 2009 Volunteer of the Month.
