JOHNATHON TOEWS AWARDED SPORT MANITOBA MALE YOUTH ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

CONGRATULATIONS JOHNATHON TOEWS (Winnipeg) for being selected THE SPORT MANITOBA MALE YOUTH ATHLETE OF THE YEAR. Johnathon and many other worthy Manitoba athletes, coaches and volunteers were recognized for their achievements at the Pantages Theatre earlier this month.

Some of Johnathon’s achievements include:

– December, 2005, Johnathon was the youngest member (17 years old) to be named to the IIHF World Junior Canadian U20 Hockey Team.

– August, 2005, Johnathon captained the IIHF U18 Canadian National Hockey Team to a gold medal at the Uncer 18 Junior World Cup in the Czech Repbulic. He was the leading scorer of the tournament.

– January, 2005, won a gold medal as captain of Team Western at the 2005 World Under 17 Challenge in Lethbridge, Alberta where he was the tournament’s top scorer.

– April, 2005, won the U.S.A. Hockey 18 and under Tier 1 Hockey National Championship with the Shattuck St. Mary’s Prep. Team.

Johnathon’s Personal Bests include:

– World Tournament Under 18 – leading scorer
– World Under 17 Challenge – leading scorer
– Prep team at Shattuck St. Mary’s – leading scorer
– Won three major competitions he participated in during the year – all of them at the highest level of their categories

Johnathon is presently completing his 1st year with the University of North Dakota as a 17 year old student. He is a great example of sportsmanship both on and off the ice.
