Road to Esso Cup: Pembina Valley & Notre Dame face-off once again

by Hockey Manitoba  |  April 3, 2012 2:42 pm

The Manitoba Female Midget AAA Hockey League (MFMHL) champion Pembina Valley Hawks will play a familiar foe in the Esso Cup – West Regionals. The Notre Dames Hounds and Pembina Valley hawks will face off for a third straight season to compete for a berth in the 2012 Esso Cup – National Championship.

After defeating the Winnipeg Avros 3-0 in their MFMHL best-of-five championships series, the Hawks will now travel to Wilcox, SK April 6-8 to play the Notre Dame Hounds in a best-of-three series to determine which team will represent the West Region in Charlottetown, PEI. The Hounds are the defending National Champion and have slipped past the Hawks the past 2 seasons to represent the West Region at the National Championship.

The West Region has had great success in the Esso Cup as this Region has won 2 of the 3 National Championships held with the MFMHL's Westman Wildcats winning the first every event in 2009 and Notre Dame winning last season prior to losing in the final to Thunder Bay in 2010.

The 2012 Esso Cup will take place April 22-28 in Charlottetown, PEI.
