Hockey Manitoba referee Cynthia Cote (La Broquerie) has been selected to officiate at the 2022 Esso Cup which is being hosted in Okotoks, Alberta from May 16-22, 2022.

This is the first time that Cote, 21, has been selected to officiate at a national tournament.

“I’m very, very excited for this opportunity. It definitely wasn’t expected,” Cote said. “When I got the email that I was nominated, my jaw dropped and I was super excited. Then, hearing that I was selected was even more exciting. I’m just looking forward to learning a lot. I know there will be lots of knowledgeable referee coaches there so I’m very excited to learn from them.”

Cote is a Level III official who has been officiating minor hockey for 9 years. This past season, she officiated games in the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League, the Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League, and the Manitoba Women’s Junior Hockey League.

“The biggest challenge I think will just be working alongside such talented referees and getting up to their level. But I am excited to learn from them and just watch some good hockey.” Cote said.
