2009 TELUS Cup player award winners announced

2009 TELUS CUP AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED
— SEMIFINALS SET FOR SATURDAY —

SELKIRK, Man. – The 2009 TELUS Cup, Canada’s 31st National Midget Championship, held its awards banquet on Friday night at the Selkirk Recreation Complex. The tournament’s awards committee named the recipients of the seven individual awards.

The awardswere based on the tournament’s round robin, which ran from Monday to Friday.

The 2009 TELUS Cup award winners are:

TELUS Most Valuable Player – Nolan Zajac – Winnipeg Thrashers

Top Goaltender – Brett Gagnon – Winnipeg Thrashers

Top Forward – Ben Gamache – Notre Dame Hounds

Top Defensive Player – Jesse Pauls – Notre Dame Hounds

Most Sportsmanlike Player – Chris Collins – Calgary Buffaloes

Top Scorer – Nolan Zajac – Winnipeg Thrashers

Esso Scholarship – Nolan Huysmans – Notre Dame Hounds

After an exciting week of round-robin play, the semi-finals are set for Saturday, April 25. The Notre Dame Hounds, who were the only team to go undefeated through the preliminary round, will face the Rousseau Sports du Laval-Bourassa at 2 p.m. CT, followed by the host Winnipeg Thrashers taking on the Calgary Buffaloes at 6 p.m. CT. Both games will take place at the Selkirk Recreation Complex.

The bronze medal game will go at 11 a.m. CT on Sunday, April 26, followed by the gold medal game at 5 p.m. CT. Both of the medal games will take place at the Selkirk Recreation Complex. The gold medal game will be broadcast live on TSN2 at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT. It will be shown on tape delay on the main TSN network at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. PT. Check your local listings for the broadcast time in your area.
