2026 IIHF World Girls’ Ice Hockey Weekend – Applications open
The IIHF World Girls’ Ice Hockey Weekend is an international celebration of the women and girls’ game, taking place in October and November 2026.
Over the last decade, Hockey Canada has reached hundreds of thousands of young Canadian girls through this event. In 2025, more than 12,000 participants took part in over 55 WGIHW events across the country, with subsidies provided to help cover the costs of hosting.
The WGIHW creates a national sense of community. Anyone in Canada can register to host their own event that works to recruit and engage Canadians in the sport of hockey.
All WGIHW events must go through the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR). Step-by-step HCR instructions can be found through the link below.
The goal of World Girls’ Ice Hockey Weekend is to have events from coast to coast that recruit, retain and engage players, coaches, officials and fans, old and new. It celebrates and grows the game through grassroots programming led by girls’ hockey associations, minor hockey associations and communities.
Minor Hockey Associations are encouraged to host their event at a time that suits their community, any time in October or November.
Applications must be submitted prior to September 25, 2026. Successful applicants will be contacted by Hockey Manitoba and will receive financial reimbursement to help offset the costs of putting on their event.
