Female U18 and Male U16 POE Summer Camp rosters announced

by Ezra Ginsburg  |  August 3, 2021 2:00 pm

WINNIPEG, MB – Hockey Manitoba is excited to release Summer camp rosters for our two teams in the 2021 Program of Excellence (POE). The POE Summer Camps are scheduled to take place from August 13, 2021 August 15, 2021 at Bell MTS Iceplex.

While there have been positive changes within the Manitoba Public Health orders, the 2021 Program of Excellence will be significantly different than the usual program format.  Hockey Manitoba realizes that athletes have had limited, or in some cases, no access to ice time for the better part of the past 16 months.

As a result, the circumstances surrounding the 2021 Program of Excellence are not ideal when it comes to the selection of athletes.  Despite these difficult circumstances, Hockey Manitoba is committed to doing its due diligence when it comes to all decisions related to player selection and evaluation.

The Summer Camps will be the first step in the evaluation process for the 2021 POE. Players that are ultimately selected to represent Team Manitoba will compete at the 2021 National Women’s U18 Championship and the 2021 Western Hockey League (WHL) U16 Cup.

The roster for our Female U18 program consists of 46 athletes (six goaltenders, 24 forwards, and 16 defencemen), including 31 athletes from the Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League and 15 athletes from various sport school programs.

Female U18 Team Manitoba will be led by Head Coach Neil Chow who has been a Head Coach and Assistant Coach in the U18 program multiple times with his most recent stint coming as a Head Coach for the U18 program in 2013. Neil will be joined by assistant coaches Jessica Kaminsky and Alana Serhan. This will be Jessica’s first year as a coach within the Female U18 program. Jessica played multiple years of NCAA Division 1 Hockey with Union College. This will also be Alana’s first year as a coach within the Female U18 program. Alana played five seasons for the University of Manitoba Bisons where she won a National Championship in 2018. Director of Operations for the Female U18 POE will be Dustin Stewart (Hockey Manitoba).

Female U18 Summer Camp Roster

The roster for our Male U16 program consists of 46 athletes (six goalies, 24 forwards, and 16 defencemen). The breakdown of the roster features 34 athletes from the Winnipeg U15 AAA Hockey League and 12 from sport school programs.

Leading U16 Team Manitoba behind the bench will be Jeff Sveinson, currently the Head Coach of the Winnipeg Bruins (Manitoba U18 AAA League). Sveinson returns after serving as Head Coach of the U16 team that earned a silver medal at the 2019 WHL Cup in Calgary.  Sveinson is also a two-time assistant coach in the Female U18 POE (2011, 2015) having won medals both occasions. Jeff will be joined by assistant coaches Jordan Sobkowicz and Jordan Wohlgemuth. Wohlgemuth and Sobkowicz return as assistant coaches of U16 Team Manitoba after being assistant coaches of the U16 team that earned a silver medal at the 2019 WHL Cup. Director of Operations for the Male U16 POE will be Bernie Reichardt (Hockey Manitoba).
