by Hockey Manitoba  |  March 14, 2017 9:00 am

Calgary, AB – The Western Hockey League announced today that Portland Winterhawks forward Cody Glass has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending March 12, 2017.

Glass registered eight points (5G-3A) in four games to help the Winterhawks go 3-1-0-0 and clinch a berth into the 2017 WHL Playoffs.

On Wednesday, March 8, Glass recorded two goals and two assists in a 5-4 win versus Prince George and was named first star as the Winterhawks punched their ticket to the post-season. On Friday, March 10, Glass provided two goals once again, one of which came on a power play and served as the game-winner, earning first-star recognition in a 4-2 win at Spokane. After being held off the scoresheet on Saturday, March 11, in a 6-3 loss versus Seattle, Glass bounced back with another first-star performance the following day, scoring the game-tying goal and setting up the game-winner moments later as the Winterhawks muzzled the Everett Silvertips by a 4-3 margin on Sunday, March 12.

This is the second occasion Glass has been recognized as WHL Player of the Week this season after he was first tabbed with the honour for the week ending October 9, 2016.

The 17-year-old product of Winnipeg, MB, is enjoying a stellar campaign in this his NHL Draft year. His 93 points rank sixth in WHL scoring, while his 61 assists sit sixth among league leaders as well. In January, he was listed eighth among North American skaters in NHL Central Scouting’s Midterm Rankings for the 2017 NHL Draft and shortly thereafter represented Team Orr at the 2017 Sherwin-Williams CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Quebec City.

The 6-foot-2, 179-pound centre is projected as a potential first-round selection at the 2017 NHL Draft.

Originally selected by the Portland Winterhawks in the first round (19th) of the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft, Glass has recorded 120 points (42G-78A) in 135 career WHL regular season games.
