Hockey Manitoba introduces new Sr.A Provincials format
Hockey Manitoba and its Male Senior Hockey Council are very pleased to announce a new format in deciding the organization’s Sr.A provincial champion. This year Hockey Manitoba will be hosting a champions tournament with representation from the province’s five Senior A category leagues and with one league having a second representative as a wild card team. This six team provincial tournament will be hosted in conjunction with the Hockey Manitoba Cup – Adult Rec Provincials in an effort to best expose the calibre of Sr.A hockey and the promotion of this newly formed event. The Sr.A Provincials will open on Thursday, April 18th with 2 games at PCU Centre in Portage la Prairie, action will then move to MTS Iceplex in Winnipeg for the remainder of the tournament with the championship final scheduled for Sunday, April 21st.
The five Sr.A leagues that will be represented at the Sr.A Provincials tournament are; Carillon Senior Hockey League (CSHL), Manitoba Senior Hockey League (MSHL), North Central Hockey League (NCHL), South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League (SEMHL) and the Tiger Hills Hockey League (THHL). For the 2013 tournament the wildcard team has been assigned as the runner-up of the THHL, the wildcard team will rotate league-by-league on an annual basis. The Sr.A Provincials will have two pools with three teams in each side playing a round-robin format. The top team from each pool will advance to the championship final on Sunday, April 21st at 2:30 PM.
