Kathy Valentino appointed to Hockey Manitoba Board of Directors
Kathy Valentino joins the Hockey Manitoba Board of Directors bringing a strong and visible commitment to the advancement of girls’ and women’s hockey, alongside extensive experience in governance, public leadership, and community engagement.
Kathy is currently President of the Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM) , 2nd Vice-President for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) and serves as a long-standing City Councillor for Thompson, Manitoba. With nearly 30 years of professional experience in the financial sector, she brings a disciplined, governance-driven approach to strategic oversight, accountability, and organizational evolution.
A passionate advocate for hockey at the grassroots and provincial levels, Kathy has been deeply involved in minor hockey through leadership, volunteering, and community development, particularly in northern Manitoba. Kathy was the founder of the Norman U15AAA Male program and spent numerous years involved on the Norman Northstars U18AAA board . Her contributions have been formally recognized through Hockey Manitoba’s Norman Volunteer Recognition Award, reflecting her long-standing dedication to growing the game and improving access and experience for participants.
On the Hockey Manitoba Board, Kathy will provide focused leadership in strengthening the framework, visibility, and long-term growth of girls’ and women’s hockey, while supporting the organization’s ongoing governance evolution. Her work will emphasize inclusive participation, strong governance practices, and alignment with Hockey Manitoba’s mission to deliver a safe, positive, and progressive hockey experience for all.
Kathy’s appointment reflects Hockey Manitoba’s commitment to listening, evolving, and taking meaningful steps to ensure girls and women are fully supported and represented within the sport—today and into the future.
