The Nighthawks will now travel to Summerside, Prince Edward Island, to compete for a national championship at the Centennial Cup from May 7-17.
Niverville Nighthawks win 2026 MJHL Championship
On Thursday April 23rd, the Niverville Nighthawks captured their first ever Turnbull Cup Trophy since joining the Manitoba Junior Hockey League in 2022. Niverville defeated the Virden Oil Capitals 6-2 in Game 4 on the road, sweeping the final series 4-0.
Niverville finished the regular season on top of the MJHL standings with an impressive record of 51-6-1 (103 pts) with the next closest team being the Steinbach Pistons who finished with a 47-9-2 (96 pts) record.
The Nighthawks began their playoff journey with a sweep of the Winkler Flyers in the first round before they ended up facing the Waywayseecappo Wolverines who defeated the Dauphin Kings in the first round. Niverville would go on to beat Waywayseecappo in 5 games with a 4-1 series win.
The MJHL Championship saw Niverville jump out to an early 3-0 series lead after winning games 1-3 by a combined score of 13-5. The Oil Capitals started off Game 4 with a 1-0 lead, but Niverville would regroup and score the game’s next four goals en route to a 6-2 victory, led by Marlen Edwards who scored two goals.
After the game, Niverville goalie Austin Dubinsky was named Most Valuable Player of the Turnbull Cup Playoffs. In 13 games, Dubinsky had a record of 12-1, with a 1.31 goals against average and a .956 save percentage.
