Transcona back in MMJHL as the “Railer Express”; new logo unveiled
In September 2011, the former Transcona Junior Railers ceased operations after 34 years in existence. After recognizing this void in the community, a group of 10 former Railer junior hockey player alumni acted by formulating a business plan and made applications to the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League for a new club.
On Saturday, January 7, 2012 The Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League voted to accept a ‘new’ Transcona franchise for the upcoming 2012-13 season.
The non-profit board of directors of the new Transcona Railer Express are devoted to get junior hockey “back on the rails”, by creating a positive first class environment for young hockey players and fans of junior hockey in Transcona once again. The Railer Express intend to “create a venue and opportunity for young players to foster their athletic skills as well as enhance their community spirit. To resurrect pride in the Transcona community for both young and old by providing a quality affordable program for competitive hockey players who are continuing their education or beginning of their working careers."
