Winnipeg native, Scott Glennie named WHL Player of Week

CALGARY, AB – The BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week is forward Scott Glennie of the Brandon Wheat Kings.

Glennie collected seven points, scoring two goals and five assists to go with a +4 rating, in three games over the past week, helping the Wheat Kings post a 2-1-0-0 record in that span.

On Wednesday, January 20th, the Wheat Kings travelled to Prince Albert to face the Raiders. Glennie netted the Wheat Kings’ lone goal in a 4-1 loss to the Raiders. The two Clubs met again on Friday, January 22nd at the Keystone Centre in Brandon for the back half of their home-and-home series. Glennie scored his 18th goal of the season and added a pair of assists as the Wheaties downed the Raiders 6-2 and was named the games 2nd Star. On Saturday, January 23rd the Wheat Kings travelled to Saskatoon to face the Blades in a battle between East Division power houses. Glennie picked up an assist on all three of the Wheat Kings third period goals to lift his Club to a 5-2 win over the Blades.

With Glennie’s seven points over the last three games he has now reached the 50 point plateau in all three of his WHL seasons, currently sitting 30th among WHL scorers with 52 points (18 goals, 34 assists) in 46 games. The Wheat Kings have won four of their last five games and sit third in the WHL Eastern Conference with a 32-16-0-3 record for 67 points.

Glennie, an 18-year-old from Winnipeg, Manitoba, is currently playing his third season with the Brandon Wheat Kings. He was drafted by the Wheat Kings in the 2nd round – 29th overall at the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft and was recently selected by the Dallas Stars in the 1st round – 8th overall at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

The WHL has also nominated Ian Curtis of the Portland Winterhawks for the CHL Goaltender of the Week Award. Curtis posted a 2-0-0-0 road record this past week, stopping 80 of 82 shots faced for a 1.000 goals-against average and a remarkable 0.976 save percentage. Curtis, a native of Abbotsford, British Columbia, has appeared in 30 games this season posting an 18-7-1-1 record with three shut-outs.

Glennie and the Wheat Kings will continue a 4-game road trip Tuesday night in Cranbrook, B.C. against the Kootenay Ice. Brandon has won back to back games including Saturday’s 5-2 win over the Eastern Conference leading Saskatoon Blades.

Brandon enters the week trailing the first place Blades by just two points.
