Hockey Manitoba Board of Directors Announcement

by Hockey Manitoba  |  May 19, 2026 2:30 pm

Hockey Manitoba is pleased to announce that Boyd Canart has been appointed Chair of the Hockey Manitoba Board of Directors following the organization’s 2026 Annual General Meeting and the approval of its new governance structure.

Canart previously served as President of Hockey Manitoba and has played a central leadership role in guiding the organization through its governance modernization over the past two years.

As Chair, Canart will continue to support Hockey Manitoba’s transition to a modern governance model focused on clear strategic oversight, strong organizational accountability, improved operational alignment, and consistent support for Members.

Canart’s leadership approach is grounded in honesty, transparency, and communication. While hockey is a game and should remain fun for participants, he believes it must also be governed with the discipline of a well-run organization. Members invest significant time, money, and trust into the game, and the Board has a responsibility to deliver value, protect that trust, and make decisions in the best interests of hockey in Manitoba.

His vision is centered on building an organization that works for its Members, partners, and volunteers—one that provides clearer support, stronger communication, and greater consistency across the province.

“The work over the past two years has been focused on positioning Hockey Manitoba for the future,” said Canart. “Our priority remains building an organization that is sustainable, better connected, and well equipped to support the game across Manitoba.”

Under Hockey Manitoba’s new structure, the Board of Directors will focus on governance, strategic direction, and oversight, while operational leadership will be led by the CEO and staff.

Hockey Manitoba thanks Boyd for his continued leadership and commitment to the game throughout Manitoba.

Hockey Manitoba is pleased to announce that Megan Gabrielle has been appointed Vice Chair of the Hockey Manitoba Board of Directors following the organization’s 2026 Annual General Meeting and approval of its new governance structure.

Most recently Gabrielle previously served as Vice President and has been an important contributor to Hockey Manitoba’s governance modernization efforts and long-term organizational planning.

A long-time resident of southwest Manitoba, Gabrielle brings a strong blend of governance experience, strategic thinking, and grassroots hockey involvement. Her experience spans coaching, team administration, tournament operations, and community sport leadership, along with a professional background in financial services, planning, and client advocacy.

As Vice Chair, Gabrielle will continue to support Hockey Manitoba’s focus on:
• Strong governance and accountability
• Organizational alignment and modernization
• Enhanced support for Members and volunteers
• Long-term sustainability and growth of the game

Gabrielle is also a strong advocate for the continued growth and visibility of girls’ and women’s hockey, and for leadership pathways that ensure women are represented at all levels of the sport.

“Hockey continues to evolve, and it is important that our organization evolves with it,” said Gabrielle. “This transition is about creating stronger systems, clearer alignment, and better support for the people and communities who make hockey possible across Manitoba.”

Hockey Manitoba congratulates Megan on her appointment and thanks her for her continued leadership and commitment to the game across the province.
